Personal protective equipment is designed to help protect against workplace hazards. A wide assortment of personal protective equipment is available for the eyes, face, head, feet, hands, arms, and ears. However, using personal protective equipment requires hazard awareness and training on the part of the user. To be effective, PPE mst be appropriate for the type of hazard encountered, and must be fitted properly and maintained in a clean and serviceable condition.

- When selecting eyewear, choose the type that will best protect you against know hazards.
- Select head protection that resists penetration and absorbs the shock of a blow.
- When selecting protective equipment for the hands, choose the most appropriate glove for the job.
- When selecting footwear, select safety choes or boots that offer impact, compression, or puncture protection.
- To prevent hearing loss from occupational noise, wear earmuffs or earplugs.
