1121 Airborne Pathogens (DVD)
Airborne diseases are spread through microscopic droplets released into the air, usually when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Airborne diseases include influenza, chicken pox, measles and mumps, as well as more dangerous diseases such as tuberculosis, plague, botulism, smallpox, and anthrax. They are easily transmitted from person to person. You can reduce the risk of infection by practicing good hygiene and using infection-control techniques where there is risk of occupational exposure.
The key training points in this video include:
- the importance of hand washing to reduce the spread of disease
- cleaning and disinfection of surfaces
- immunization
- universal precautions
- protective barriers, including respirators
- antibiotics
